I attended my Democratic Party precinct meeting last night, and it turns out nobody in the precinct is in charge of managing the data we have, so I volunteered. We’ll see what that turns into. Also, I proposed a resolution, and it passed with no objections. We’ll see if it makes it up at the county level. Here’s the text that passed in my precinct:
WHEREAS:
Barack Obama enjoys large margins of support among North Carolina Democrats;
WHEREAS:
Barack Obama enjoys unprecedented support among not only Independent
and unaffiliated voters but also among Republicans;WHEREAS:
Barack Obama has won a majority of the popular vote in democratic
primaries and caucuses in 2008;WHEREAS:
Barack Obama has won a majority of pledged delegates in democratic
primaries and caucuses in 2008;WHEREAS:
A record-breaking number of sub-$100 donors have donated to the Barack
Obama primary campaign;WHEREAS:
A Democratic Party strongly-unified in its support of a presidential
nominee stands the best chance of winning the White House in 2008;THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
North Carolina’s Democratic elected officials and party members who
are superdelegates to the 2008 Democratic national convention are
instructed to publicly support the winner by popular vote and pledged
delegate count of the North Carolina primary held in May of 2008,
Barack Obama. Should the winner not be Mr. Obama, superdelegates from
North Carolina are instructed to support the winner.
The neighboring precinct, which was holding its meeting at the same place and time, passed a resolution almost identical to the one above, with the resolution text reading:
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
North Carolina’s Democratic elected officials and party members who
are superdelegates to the 2008 Democratic national convention are
instructed to publicly support Barack Obama as the presidential
nominee of the Democratic party.
Again, the resolution passed with unanimous consent.
