CCI lenovo T60p with Ubuntu: first impressions

The kids picking up CCI ThinkPads this year are getting the T60p. That’s going to be the most popular option of three, anyway. Doug Whitfield and I managed to convince the director of the ITRC to loan us one of them so that we could try out Ubuntu on it and document the experience. I have it open and installing Ubuntu Feisty here to my right. I have it until Thursday.

I’m typing this on my ibiblio-issued T41, and I have to say… the T41 is a lot prettier, and ThinkPads have never been known for their trendiness. Also: booo on the Atheros chip since it will require madwifi (not exactly open). I guess I should be thankful that it (the wireless) works out of the box with Ubuntu. That’s as much as I’m going to let myself rant for now. I’ll try to remember to post back with what it took to get it to play nice with campus wifi, AFS, etc.
