Saw A Mighty Heart earlier tonight. Got a free pass to a “sneak preview” to see it. It was… powerful…ly painful. I found myself too wrapped up in figuring out whose narrative voice the movie captures. Is it really the widow’s voice? I couldn’t keep that critical thinking up during Jolie’s wailing at the news of Daniel’s death. It was overwhelming. Shortly after that there’s a scene of her giving an interview. She reverts to French to ask “Have you no decency?” when the interviewer asks if she’s seen the film of her husband’s beheading.
This is a movie to be assigned as homework. This is not entertainment or a date movie. See it perhaps for the same reason you might have seen Schindler’s List in theaters.
