I had a rather odd problem with vmware. It would sit there and spin its wheels, eating 99% CPU and not actually coming up, but not spitting errors out on the console, either. I poked people in #trilug and jonesy was willing to try to help me debug it, but nobody online at the time could make sense of the strace output. I ended up backing up all of my VMs and blowing away everything in my homedir associated with vmware. After a “fresh” install of 5.5.3 (the previous install had been 5.5.2), it magically worked. :/
With vmware working again I was able to re-tackle the RT-on-SuSE problem, which is more of a SuSE-is-a-PitA problem, really. I’m giving up on it for the night.
