This is happened twice now. I’m not sure how to debug it; I’ll have to talk to somebody tomorrow. Basically what happens is that I lose keyboard. I can switch the kvm to another machine, ssh in and kill X. Boom: keyboard is back. The mouse is fine, but the keyboard is completely gone. It’s like I’ve been locked in ueber-windows. ctrl+alt+backspace does nothing. ctrl+alt+F1 does nothing. I have to ssh in and killall gdm. Oh: that’s another weird one: if I killall gdm, about half the time Xprt will still be running.
Perhaps it’s a bug in the radeon driver? The problem is how to replicate it. It’s happened twice, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what the two times have in common except that now I’m using the radeon driver and ‘Option “MergedFB” “true”‘ (etc.). I think I chalked it up to azureus flaking out last time (I’ve ditched azureus), and this time I was watching a DVD with totem, but… ?
I’ll deal with it in the morning.
